DFTZ a boon for Malaysian e-commerce growth — 11street

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Digital Free-Trade Zone (DFTZ) and its comprehensive approach, covering fulfilment, global supply chain, payment gateways, training and employment prospects, will set a conducive platform to cement Malaysia as a digital hub in the Southeast Asia.

Its implementation would also encourage traditional brick-andmortar businesses, especially local small and medium enterprises’ (SMEs) transition ínto the e-commerce sphere and trade across ASEAN countries and the world.

“The announcement of the much-anticipated DFTZ by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak comes amid a time where businesses in Malaysia are encouraged to capitalise on this initiative to boost the digital economy in the country,” Chief Executive officer of 11street, Hoseok Kim, said in a statement yesterday.

Kim said DFTZ was shaping up to be a boon to local SMEs and entrepreneurs, serving as gateway to the ASEAN market and allow local products to tap a wider market.

Furthermore, the government’s introductionofaDFTZexemplified an intention to impart knowledge and equip entrepreneurs with know-how of e-commerce, complementing the vast facilities that the trade zone will stand to offer, he said.

Resonating this intention, he said, 11street’s training programme, which was recognised by the Malaysian Digital Economy Corp, aimed to help e-entrepreneurs understand the basic rudiments and effective strategies of online business.

“We at 11street will continue to support to initiatives to evolve e-commerce in Malaysia, so as to open up opportunities for a better e-commerce climate for both ecommerce platforms and also entrepreneurs,” Kim said.

11street is an open marketplace operated by Celcom Planet Sdn Bhd, a joint-venture between Celcom Axiata Bhd and SK Planet Ltd.
