State Govt takes care of the needs of all — CM
TUARAN: The State Government has always taken into account the needs of the various communities and ethnic groups in the State, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman.
He said this had been proven in the allocation of RM7.5 million for the construction of the new Sabah Bajau Sama Cultral Centre building recently.
“I strongly believe that this new building will not only benefit the Bajau Sama community but it also has the potential to be turned into a promising tourist attraction,” said Musa at the groundbreaking ceremony of the building yesterday.
Musa added that this would also help boost the socioeconomic growth in Sabah as it would open numerous windows of opportunities for aspiring local businessmen to open their own shops around the building area.
He also expressed his gratitude towards the Sabah Bajau Sama Association (PBSS), especially its president, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Noor, in his efforts to preserve the Bajau Sama traditions and culture.
“Tuaran is the perfect choice for PBSS’ building since it has a very high percentage of Bajau Sama residents and it is also strategic as it is located offshore,” he added.
Musa further explained that although “we are sometimes caught up in our efforts to develop our state, we must not forget our tradition and culture”.
He reiterated that the public must protect their identity by protecting their cultural heritage.
Musa also said that he was pleased to see so many young people getting involved in these kinds of projects.
He said that this was important because the young people had a responsibility to share their culture with the future generation.
Also present in the event were Hajiji, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau, State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman and Parti Bersatu Sabah secretary general Datuk Johnny Mositun.
