KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has donated RM50,000 to the St Paul Beaufort Alumni.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman announced this at the fourth St Paulians’ Reunion Nite 2017 which was held at Dewan Hakka in Tanjung Lipat here on Friday.

In his launching speech, Musa said it was his hope that alumni members were open to sharing their knowledge in their chosen fields with students and school leavers who were still undecided about their future.

“At one point in life, most of us too had people to guide us in choosing our path and today, we can do the same too,” he said.

“Education is close to my heart. I truly believe in the importance of education in changing the fate of those who get the opportunity to go to school and who later pursue tertiary education.

“The Sabah Government works closely with the Federal Government in ensuring that education is given priortiy at all levels in Sabah. To this end, the State Government gives millions in allocations to Chinese vernacular schools, mission schools and non-Muslim religious organizations yearly.

“Aside from public and private institutes of higher learning in the West Coast of Sabah, the State Government also encourages the establishment of tertiary institutions in the east coast.

“As such, we developed the Sandakan Education Hub with the objective of making higher education accessible and affordable to those who not only live in town but also in the rural areas,” he added.

Also present at the event were Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai and St Paul’s Schools Alumni Association chairman Datuk Chin Chee Kee.
