KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested three men for possessing syabu and cannabis at Sadong Jaya here on Friday.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the local suspects, in their early 40s, were detained during an operation in front of Big Wheel Green Tyres Sdn Bhd at Sadong Jaya around 11.10am.

“Narcotics police were tipped off of a drug activity in the area and immediately kept it under surveillance.

“Around 11am, police spotted a blue Perodua Kancil car with three suspicious men inside.

“Police approached the vehicle, introduced themselves and immediately carried out body checks on the suspects but found nothing, he said during the 210th Police Day celebration at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing yesterday.

Police then checked the vehicle and found a box containing two plastic bags.

One of the bags contained dried leaves believed to be cannabis, while the other contained crystal-like substance believed to be syabu, he said yesterday.

Chandra added that the cannabis weighing 2.74 grams and syabu 5.10 grams, had a market value of RM100 and RM400 respectively.

The suspects also tested positive for amphetamine and would be investigated under Section 39A (1), Section 6 and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Chandra said. Also present was Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai.

At the event yesterday, Chandra thanked the Kota Kinabalu City Hall for its continuous cooperation with the police in keeping the city not only clean but also safe.

“I would like to thank Datuk Yeo personally for a job well done in moving Kota Kinabalu into the right track in keeping our city clean and safe.

“Both DBKK and the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters have always worked together on numerous programmes, events and operations because we all believe that the city folks’ well-being is always our number one priority,” he said.
