KDCA to realize vision of Borneo Healing Garden
PENAMPANG: The Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) is committed in ensuring the realization of the vision and mission of a Borneo Healing Garden in Sabah.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the Borneo Healing Garden is complementing the Health Ministry’s efforts to increase integration of traditional and complementary medicines into the national medical system. Pairin who is KDCA president, said the Borneo Healing Garden would be a place for Allopathy as well as traditional and complementary medicines.
He stated this in his speech for the opening of the Herbal and Traditional and Complementary Medicine carnival here yesterday which was delivered by KDCA secretary general Datuk John Anthony.
Pairin also disclosed that more than 10 hospitals nationwide are offering traditional and complementary medicines for patients with chronic illness and those who suffer from stroke.
“Hospital Port Dickson has been chosen as the first medical facility to offer ‘Shirodhara’ as a form of treatment,” he said, adding that more traditional and complementary medicine units would be set up as the sector enjoys a transformation to a more prestigious level.
“For Sabahans, traditional medicine is a knowledge and practice of our Orang Asal which has been passed from generation to generation. The richness of our biodiversity as natural resources for traditional and complementary medicines must be supported and guided by the government, practitioners and suppliers.
“This will ensure the smooth integration of the traditional and complementary medicine service into the national medical system,” he said.
