New president to tackle late deliveries

- By Shalina R.

The new Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Associa on (Shareda) president, Chew Sang Hai, will tackle the late delivery of projects.

PENAMPANG: As the new Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda) president, Chew Sang Hai will emphasize survival, sustainability and succession (3S) upon the association members.

He said the 3S would help carry out a lot of work that would prepare its members in facing the challenges as well as issues successfully in the future.

Chew added that Shareda youths must be especially included in the association’s efforts as subcommittee members, and be groomed as its future leaders.

One of the issues that the new Shareda line-up will focus on is the late delivery of projects.

“The first issue I would like to tackle is mainly late delivery of projects,” said Chew after winning the post during the Shareda 20172019 office bearers election, and the association’s 24th annual general meeting here yesterday.

“We will form a task force committee, and all findings will be forwarded to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing and its minister.

“Late delivery is not the developer’s problem alone. It involves a lot of people and we need to highlight this to all the stakeholders,” he said.

Chew said Shareda would also look into ironing out some strata title issues.

“It is Shareda’s policy; we want to see the issuance of strata titles with the OC (occupancy certificates) so that a management corporation (MC) can be formed.

“This is the ultimate aim of the whole issue because the MC will automatically help buyers,” he said, adding the method had been implemented in Singapore and Australia.

Shareda also foresees an inevitable conversion of native titles (NT) to commercial lease (CL) to expedite the issuance of strata titles.

The former Shareda deputy president, who is Grand Merdeka Development Sdn Bhd executive director, succeeds Kinsabina Sdn Bhd Group chief executive officer Datuk Francis Goh Fah Shun, after beating Riverson Corporation Sdn Bhd managing director Ben Kong Chung Vui by 48 votes.

He pulled in 95 votes, whilst Kong had 47 votes. There were only three spoilt votes.

Meanwhile, Remajaya Sdn Bhd group managing director Datuk Sr Chua Soon Ping toppled J&M Development Sdn Bhd managing director Dato Ir. John Chee Shi Tong by 87 votes.

Chua garnered 116 votes while Chee got 29 votes.

Chew also immediately appointed Kong as one of the Shareda council members, and asked Grand Merdeka Development Sdn Bhd general manager Chew Fei Sean to take up her previous assistant secretary general position.

Vice presidents Chai Meng Kong and Wong Chen Yee, secretary general Ar Ang Guo Wei, treasurer general Kah Gen Fon, as well as council members Pengiran Saifuddin Pengiran Tahir, Quek Siew Hau, Reggie Sua@Boboy, Raymond Chan Yin Hong, Tan Duo Zer and Benny My Su Pei make up the Shareda Council 2017-2019 line-up.

Chew, who has the power to appoint five spots in the council, still has another three spots to fill up.
