Gyllenhaal reteams with ‘Life’ director for ISIS film

-

AS SCI-FI flick “Life” lands in US theatres, news comes that the movie's American actor and Swedish director are back working together on “The Anarchists vs ISIS,” a film based on a true story first published as a Rolling Stone article.

Back in February, journalist Seth Harp penned an article telling the true story of a group of Western volunteers, mostly Americans, fighting in Syria alongside the YPG Kurdish militia to defeat ISIS.

The article is now set to serve as the basis for a new movie from filmmaker Daniel Espinosa, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, although details of his exact role are yet to emerge. First, the project needs a screenwriter to help portray the day-to-day lives of this anarchist collective, living among the rubble of wartorn Syria in a bid to drive out ISIS.

While waiting to find out more about “The Anarchists vs ISIS,” moviegoers can catch Jake Gyllenhaal in “Life,” a scifi film also directed by Daniel Espinosa, in US theatres from Friday.

The movie, which also stars Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson, follows the crew of an international space station who make an important discovery when they find the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars.

The American actor is currently in high demand in the movie world. As well as a starring role in “Okja,” from Korean filmmaker Bong Joonho, released June 28 on Netflix, Gyllenhaal recently filmed Paul Dano's “Wildlife” as well as “Stronger,” a film about the 2013 Boston marathon bombing.

He is announced on the cast of “The Division,” based on the Ubisoft video game from the “Tom Clancy” franchise, plus Antoine Fuqua's “The Man Who Made it Snow,” and is set to feature in the first English-language film from French director Jacques Audiard — “The Sister's Brothers” — alongside Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly. — Relaxnews
