Rep calls for immediate repair of damaged water pipes

KOTA KINABALU: Inanam assemblyman Dr Roland Chia has called on the State Water Department to immediately repair the damaged main water pipes along Jalan Tuaran.

Roland said that although the Water Department had sent out the notice of the pending damaged water pipes and circumstances of the delay, immediate repair works must be done round the clock to ensure water supply will be supplied to the entire Manggatal township and residential areas and part of the Inanam Laut areas too.

It is believed that a few thousand residents and business operators are suffering as a result of the damaged water pipes along Jalan Tuaran.

Roland said many of his constituents had called him to complain that they have no water for bathing, cleaning, cooking or even flushing their toilets and this situation had caused so much inconveniences to the households.

“Coffee shops and restaurants have to close and resulted in loss of income,” he said after visiting the area where the damaged pipes are located on Monday.

“I am disappointed that no workers could be seen and no repair work was on-going although there was a Water Department vehicle parked next to the damaged pipe site. I am wondering why were there no workers around”.

Roland said that he was made to understand that the pipes were damaged after the landfill/ earthworks on a private land collapsed due to the heavy rainfall on Friday.

The landslide was so massive that it had caused the pipe to burst and caused damage.

“In addition the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) electrical post was also damaged. Therefore the authorities must immediately repair the damaged pipes without further delay so that thousands of residents and business operators can resume their routine.

“In the meantime the Water Department should set up a temporary water dispensing station so that residents and operators can come to collect water for their daily use,” he said.
