Armed gang robbery: June 8 sentencing for youth

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Sessions Court here yesterday set June 8 this year for the social report and sentencing of a 20year-old youth for committing armed gang robbery.

Judge Noorhafizah Mohd Salim fixed the date for the trial of Ag Radhi Ag Rajit after he pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 395 and read together under Section 397 of the Penal Code.

The charge carries a jail term of up to 20 years and also liable to whipping, on conviction.

He committed the offence with two others, who were sentenced to 11 years’ jail plus one stroke of the cane on May 9.

Ag Radhi robbed Kang Myoung Sook, 41, of her purse containing bank cards, a driving licence and money, a Toyota car key, a security card, a camera and an Asus note book.

The victim was asleep at her house at a hypermall here at 1.30am on March 27 when she heard noises in her kitchen.

She then saw three intruders, including Ag Radhi in the living room, and one of them was holding a knife and a laptop bag.

The men fled the house and did not harm her.

Meanwhile, the case of a 24-year-old man, who was charged with causing the death of a man at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), will be mentioned at the Sessions Court here on June 7 this year.

Judge Azreena Aziz fixed the date for Mohd Ramzan Suhaimi at the request of his counsel yesterday.

Mohd Ramzan was alleged to have committed culpable homicide not amounting to murder of Mohd Ali Baba Kirim Abdullah, 27, at the airport at 11.30pm on December 27, 2015.

The offence was framed under Section 304 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 30 years and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

Previously, Mohd Ramzan was charged under Section 302 for murdering the deceased, which provides for the mandatory death sentence, on conviction.

The accused is currently detained under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
