Papar Masters triumph at 7th SAMOC
KOTA KINABALU: The Papar Masters were crowned overall champions in the 7th Sabah Masters Athletics Open Championship (SAMOC) which ended at the Likas Stadium on Sunday.
The Papar Masters held off a strong challenge from Brunei Darussalam and the Penampang Masters en-route to winning the title with 28 gold, 15 silver and 20 bronze medals.
Brunei, with 27 gold, 14 silver and eight bronze medals, finished second overall followed by the Penampang Masters with 25 gold, 20 silver and one bronze medal.
The Tuaran Masters settled for fourth place with 23 gold, 27 silver and 20 bronze medals while Team SMRC finished the top five with 17 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze medals.
TTSS Masters with 14 gold, 12 silver and nine bronze, Singapore Masters (13 gold, seven silver, two bronze), POAL Labuan (12 gold, nine silver, eight bronzes), Maybank Sabah (nine gold, seven silver, eight bronzes) and India (seven gold, two silver, one bronze) completed the top 10 teams.
In all, around 500 athletes from 30 teams hailing from within and outside Sabah took part in the two-day event organised by the Sabah Masters Athletics Association (SAMAS).
Youth and Sports Ministry deputy permanent secretary Hj Mat Jaidin Hj Mohd Yassin presented the prizes to the champions at the closing ceremony of the championship as the representative of Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan.
Also present was SAMAS president-cum-organising chairman Aliudin Jumaat.
