Rocker Zheng Jun to go on first tour in over a decade
BEIJING: It’s been over a decade since rocker Zheng Jun had played gigs to adoring crowds.
He’s planning to go on a tour again.
Notably, Zheng is laid-back about his flirtation with rock music.
Admitted Zheng: “I never intended to become a rock star and I don’t make plans. When my team reminded me that it’s been more than 10 years since I last gave a tour and discussed having another tour, I realised how time flies and that it may be a good timing to tour again.”
In 1994, he had skyrocketed to fame with the rabble-rousing album Naked.
For his fans, the bareness came in one neat package: defiant voice, frank and thoughtprovoking lyrics and rugged good looks.
With his best-selling albums and hits such as Cinderella, Return to Lhasa and Chineselanguage cover of Coldplay’s Yellow, Zheng catapulted to ubiquity.
After his final tour in 2006, he focused on fatherhood, yoga, and a book project.
He is the father of a daughter aged 18, and a son aged six.
For his tour which begins next month, Zheng has given it the tagline Eloping, a song from sixth full-length album, Chang’an Chang’an. Released in 2008, it was his final studio album.
The lyrics reflect his yearning for liberation from stress.
Said Zheng: “The fast pace of life gets us stressed. We all want freedom.”
