Three women go bald to raise funds for awareness campaign

-

KUCHING: Three women, including a pastor, went bald to raise RM31,058 for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS).

Pastor Alice Gan from the Good News Fellowship (GNF) Church at Green Heights here said she decided to take the ‘Go Bald 2017’ challenge – SCCS’ annual signature campaign slated for raising public awareness of children’s cancer – after a member of her congregation persuaded her to do, seeing that she always preaches about love in her sermons.

Joining Gan were GNF Church worker Helena Ho and member Alice Chan.

“I am grateful that the three of us have done our good deed for society and we hope to do the same in the future,” Gan told reporters after she, Ho and Chan had their heads shaved at the church yesterday.

“The church always contributes and it is in this spirit that we want to do something for the sick. Every Thursday, a pastor from our church will go to Sarawak General Hospital and visit the children suffering from cancer. The pastor would spend some time with them, giving moral support to these children and sharing prayers with them,” she added.

Gan also disclosed that the funds raised by the three of them came from the ‘good people’ from Singapore, the US and Australia as well as the locals.

“We wish to thank them as it (their generosity) means so much to SCCS. We also urge more people to come forwards and help the sick and the needy.”

It is learned that Gan, Ho and Chan could not make it to the grand ‘Go Bald 2017’ event at CityOne Mall here this July 9; hence, them having their heads shaved at the church yesterday.
