Tambunan on right path for further devt — Maximus
KOTA KINABALU: Tambunan, a valley district, is one of the most developed remote areas in Sabah.
“The incumbent assemblyman, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan has done well to develop Tambunan to the way it is today,” said Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.
In the area of infrastructure development, Tambunan has all that are enjoyed by bigger and more urban districts such as roads, as well as water and electricity supplies.
“Almost the whole of Tambunan has sufficient clean water and electricity supply, and nearly all remote villages are connected to trunk roads of which 50 per cent are sealed.
“The people should be appreciative and thankful because their level of infrastructure is not only high in quality but coverage as well,” said the Parti Bersatu Sabah acting President and Kota Marudu member of parliament.
He said the vast development was expected since Pairin, who is also Keningau member of parliament, was a former Chief Minister and is currently the Deputy Chief Minister who also holds the Infrastructure Development ministerial portfolio.
As a parliamentarian, Pairin was also able to plan and develop infrastructure in other constituencies like Bingkor and Liawan.
“The challenge, however, now for Tambunan is the question where do we go from here?” Maximus said during the Barisan Nasional/PBS Election Machinery Briefing and Kampung Kirokot Raya do on Saturday.
Tambunan has almost everything, from agriculture, with dominant paddy and rubber plantations and emerging oil palm sector, to well developed infrastructure.
“For now Tambunan is just a passing through district, but efforts are being undertaken and it is on the right path to be developed as an eco-tourism destination,” he said.
Maximus noted that all it requires are careful planning and cooperation, as well as synergy from the government, private sector and the community at large.
“There are good signs of stronger community participation, and I have no doubt Tambunan will progress to greater heights in the future,” he said.
