Club condemns quarters making allegations against journalist

-

ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Elite Media Club (KMEK) has condemned the operator of a Facebook account for alleging that a journalist in the state had received ‘dedak’ (chicken feed) or bribery.

In a statement here yesterday, the club said such an allegation was unacceptable, especially when it was a personal attack as the posting also featured a picture of the journalist’s underage son.

“… The allegation is so severe that it can tarnish the reputation of media practitioners in the state. As such, KMEK welcomes police investigation or from any authority to ensure that no individual or group freely belittles the laws of the country and victimises others by hurling allegations without evidence,” it said.

The Facebook account which goes by the name of ‘Kedah Baqhang’, allegedly carried the defamatory remarks pertaining to the water issue in Sik, in its posting last Wednesday.

The journalist has since lodged a report at the Kota Setar police headquarters.

A check by Bernama revealed the posting remained on the Facebook account, as at 3.50pm. -
