-

SANDAKAN: A total of 343 pints of blood were collected during a blood donation campaign organised by the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) of Mukim Sibuga, at Mile 8 here yesterday.

The one-day program started on 8.30 am until 3.30 pm and was held at the Yu Yuan Secondary School multipurpose hall.

According to the Sandakan Rela officer, Pg Amir Tjahri, the event, which held for the third consecutive year, managed to attract a sizeable number of donors.

“The more than 300 pints of blood collected show the noble spirit and generosity of the local public of this district. The people came willingly to support the program after being made aware on the inadequate supply of blood in the Blood Bank of the Duchess of Kent hospital,” he said.

An eye screening, dental check-up, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) screening and basic medical screening were also included in the program along with the support of the Tissue and Organ Procurement Team, the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Unit, the Pharmacy Unit, the St John’s Ambulance Malaysia and Sandakan Area Recycling unit.
