Hangzhou a haven for innovation
HANGZHOU CITY, ZHEJIANG PROVINCE, CHINA: For the past 14 consecutive years, Hangzhou has been proudly securing the top spot for having the largest number of companies in the rank of China’s Top 500 Private Enterprises for 14 consecutive years. Among the internationally renowned organizations are Alibaba Group, Wahaha Group Co. Ltd, Wanxiang Group and Geely Holding Group Co. Ltd, all based in Hangzhou.
Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Hangzhou Municipal Government director, Dong Zude said a total 117 of the top 500 companies in the world have invested in 198 projects in Hangzhou as of 2016.
In the first quarter of 2017, Dong said Hangzhou recorded a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of RMB250.8 billion, which was an increase of 8.1 per cent.
Today, Hangzhou is a haven for innovation.

In 2016, Dong said Hangzhou’s information economy has realized added value of RMB268.8 billion, marking a 22.8 per cent increase and contributed to over 50 per cent to GDP growth. E-commerce, mobile Internet and digital content sectors have also grown by 45.2 per cent, 45.1 per cent and 35 per cent respectively.

Hikvision is a provider of security and visual management vertical solutions through its video surveillance products and systems. The company has branches and after sales service outlets in 35 cities in China, as well as 28 sales companies worldwide. Last year, Hikvision reported RMB32 billion in sales revenue.
Hikvision also boasts the largest research and development (R&D) team in the security industry, with five R&D bases in Hangzhou, Chongqing, Wuhan, Shanghai and Beijing. The company invests seven to eight per cent of its revenue back into R&D. To date, Hikvision has 20,000 employees, including 10,000 local talents in R&D.
Hikvision offers a broad range of products, namely smart Internet Protocol (IP) cameras, highdefinition (HD) analog cameras, speed domes, network video recorders (NVRs), hybrid and standalone digital video recorders (DVRs), video management software, access control and alarm systems, encoders, decoders, digital video servers and other security system and closed-circuit television (CCTV) technology. Its products and solutions are utilized in the management of safe cities programme, integrated security, urban transportation, factories, manufacturing plants, environmental protection, energy, as well as in banking and finance industry, residential, retail and households.
Last November, Hikvision debuted its smart parking robot at the World Internet Conference which has the ability to park a car in under two minutes. It is said that using the smart parking robot system can boost the number of parking spaces in a carpark by 40 per cent. The company has also developed sorting robots and warehousing robots to improve the efficiency of logistics operations.
On top of that, the media were shown Hikvision’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology which could differentiate gender, predict age and match faces of visitors against the photographs of employees in its database. The analysis of this big data is invaluable for, say, a shopping mall because such information enable retailers to tailor their products, marketing strategies or even interior renovations to suit the market.
