Fake MyKad lands woman in jail

KOTA KINABALU: An unemployed woman was jailed for 36 months by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for possessing a fake MyKad.

Mirang Otong Salasain, 46, admitted before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, to a charge under Regulation 25 (1) (e) of the Registrati­on Regulation­s 1990 which provides for a jail term of up to three years and a fine, upon conviction.

The accused, who was about to leave for Johor at the Kota Kinabalu Internatio­nal Airport here on June 14, was caught for having the fake identifica­tion document bearing the numbers 810825-12-6442 under the name of Mirang Hussin.

In an unrelated case, a youth was placed under a two-year good behavior bond of RM5,000 with one local surety by the same court for stealing.

Ronny Nicholas, 21, had pleaded guilty to stealing cash and three television LCDs belonging to a restaurant in Penampang on June 26.

The accused was convicted under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine, upon conviction.

The facts of the case stated that close circuit television records showed that a man, who covered his head and used gloves, was the accused and he was also a part-time worker at the restaurant.

In mitigation, the accused pleaded for a second chance from the court to give him a non-custodial sentence as he wanted to further his studies.
