Beaufort mission school to celebrate 70th anniversar­y

KOTA KINABALU: St John Primary School in Beaufort will hold a banquet to celebrate 70th year of existence on July 15.

The school was initiated by the London-based Mill Hill Missionary Society before the Second World War, with Rev. Fr. Gosen making it possible.

In the beginning, it started with one teacher, Yong Mui Yi, with about 40 students. However, it was only in July 1947, the school’s administra­tion started with Dominic Ho as the principal, when registrati­on was officially conducted with the enrolment of 35 students (31 males and four females). By the end of 1947, the numbers increased to 76 students.

Several former principals, teachers and students of the school will be attending the banquet, and the occasion will be graced by the president of the alumni, Datuk Yeo Boon Hai who is also the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City Hall.

Several former principals of St John’s School will also be attending, such as Peter Walter, Godfrey Daya, Henry Ukang, Francis Basintal and Anthony Wong.

The anniversar­y banquet will be held on at Peregrine Grand Ballroom, Likas Square Apartment, Likas, Kota Kinabalu and will commence with a cocktail reception at 6.30pm.

The organising committee is inviting former students to come and participat­e in the event, with each ticket costing RM100.

There will be live band plus former ex-St John’s musicians, performanc­e by students and lucky draw, etc.
