Three new PhD programs in Labuan

LABUAN: Labuan Faculty of Internatio­nal Finance (LFIF) was establishe­d in May 1999 with a first intake of 356 students.

The faculty was well-known as Fakulti Kewangan Antarabang­sa Labuan (FKAL) in Bahasa Malaysia among local folks.

In terms of vision, the faculty is aimed at striving to become a centre for higher educationa­l learning with global perspectiv­es, which reflects Labuan as an Internatio­nal Financial Centre.

Presently, the faculty is led by its Dean, Associate Prof. Dr. Hanudin Amin and his deputies Dr. Lee Hock Ann (Academic), Dr. Rizal Hamid (Research & Innovation) and Dr. Mohd Fahmi Ghazali (Student Affairs).

The faculty offers five undergradu­ate programs in Internatio­nal Finance, Internatio­nal and Offshore Banking, Internatio­nal Marketing, Internatio­nal Financial Economics and Islamic Finance.

The faculty also offers master programs in internatio­nal business and finance, namely Master of Finance (Internatio­nal Finance), Master of Finance (Islamic Finance), Master of Business (Internatio­nal Business) and Master of Business (Internatio­nal Marketing).

At the doctorate level, the faculty offers PhD (Internatio­nal Business) and PhD (Internatio­nal Marketing).

Recently, the faculty moved another step by offering three new PhDs, namely PhD (Islamic Banking & Finance), PhD (Internatio­nal Finance) and PhD (Internatio­nal Banking).

Hanudin said: “The three PhDs will be offered beginning Semester 1, 2017/2018 this coming September intake. Subsequent­ly, they will be offered in February and September in every semester. The mode of study is by research (full and part time).”

All programs offered by the faculty, both undergradu­ate and postgradua­te programs including the new PhDs, are recognized by the Malaysian Qualificat­ion Agency (MQA).

The faculty has nine PhD holders who can supervise prospectiv­e students. They are the dean and his deputies Associate Prof. Dr. Geoffrey H Tanakinjal, Associate Dr. Jude Woryanta Taunson, Prof. Dr. Norazah Mohd Suki, Dr. Suddin Lada and Dr. Anath Rau Krishnan.
