KENINGAU: Over 70 District Education Office senior officers, school principal, headmasters and senior school assistants had a one-day study tour of Yun Fook Resources Sdn Bhd yesterday.

The delegation was led by District Education senior officer Masly Wahip who said the tour was to enable the delegation members, especially teachers, to understand the potential of the farm and opportunities for their students.

Its owner, Datuk Yap Yun Fook, said his dairy farm could produce nearly three million litres of milk a year.

He said the company had achieved its present production capacity following improvements to its weaknesses over the years since 2008.

“One cow can produce three to five tonnes of milk per year,” he told reporters during the tour visit yesterday.

Yap's farm has about 2,000 heads of milk-producing cow at the moment.

Apart from the local market, Yap also supplies milk to Peninsular Malaysia.

“Ninety per cent or about 500 to 600 tonnes of the milk are sent to Peninsular Malaysia every month,” said Yap who had been involved in the industry for 35 years since 1982.

He said his milk production increased every year since the inception of his farm and improved weaknesses over the years to meet the ever increasing demad for milk.

“We need to improve to achieve Key Performance Index (KPI), this is important because we use a good system to carry out this project.

“Now we do not have to work as hard as before. We depend mostly on machines in our milk production,” Yap said, adding that they must take care of the environment.

The sewage must be fully utilised by the farm in its organic farming.

He added that sewage was a good organic fertiliser for the grass, fruits and vegetables.

Meanwhile, District Education Office senior officer Masly Wahip, who led over 70 education officers, school principals, headmasters and senior assistants, said the purpose of the visit was to enable the teachers understand the potential of the farm for the benefit of their students.

“It is hoped that such a visit can motivate students.

“We hope the school principals and headmasters can work with the owner of this company to promote milk to schools as the milk is nutritious.

Masly said now some schools, especially Chinese schools, had been working with Yap to supply milk to their schools.

“Yap always supports schools especially on Teachers' Day at district level. Yap will contribute 3,000 boxes of fresh milk on July 29, “Masly said.

Masly described Yap's experience as meaningful and valuable to all, especially schools.

It is hoped that Yap could share his experience with students.

He said there were also trainees from universities, namely UiTM, UMS, Unitar and UPM undergoing their practical in the farm and this should serve as a motivation for students to pursue a career in this field.
