Habitual drug offender jailed for consuming syabu

KOTA KINABALU: A 53-year-old habitual drug offender was sentenced to 60 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun meted the sentence on Abdul Momin Meong @ Eyuh after he pleaded guilty as charged under Section 15 (1)(c) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read together under Section 39C of the same Act.

The indictment carries a jail term of not less than five years and not exceeding seven years and whipping of not more than three strokes, upon conviction.

The accused had five previous conviction­s for consuming syabu.

The court ordered Abdul Momin to serve his jail sentence from the date of his arrest on June 7 and to be placed under police supervisio­n for two years.

In a separate case, the same court fined Lawan Anak Jarom RM1,200, in default, four months’ jail for consuming syabu.

Lawan pleaded guilty before the magistrate to a charge under Section 15 (1)(c) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Meanwhile, another man was jailed eight months and two men were each fined RM2,000, in default, eight months’ jail for possessing syabu.

Yusuf Wahab, Dexter Alden Durai and Mohd Hairul Kamaruddin, who appeared before the magistrate, admitted to their charges under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Yusuf was sentenced to jail for possessing 0.15 gram of syabu at Sembulan at 12.40 pm on May 29.

Dexter and Mohd Hairul were fined for possessing syabu of 0.06 gram and 0.52 gram respective­ly at Kota Kinabalu area and Putatan on May 26 and April 27.

Hairul was ordered to be jailed for three days starting from yesterday.
