Three elements to address corruption – Immigration

-

LABUAN: The Immigration Department will place emphasis on three critical elements in addressing corruption among its officers across the country.

The elements are enforcement, prevention and education, which will be inculcated in the enforcement agency’s personnel in their work culture.

Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said the department was determined to raise the integrity level of its officers and staff.

“We want to ensure each of our personnel is discharging his or her duties with integrity and will not succumb to corruption or get involved in any kind of irregularities.

“Being a former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner (prevention), I will continue to emphasise on zero tolerance for corruption among our personnel,” he said at a press conference after leading the Corruption-Free Pledge taken by the Labuan Immigration Department personnel, here, yesterday.

Mustafar warned that any Immigration personnel found involved in any element of corruption would be penalised.

“However, before any stern action is taken, it is pertinent to ensure that all our personnel are equipped with awareness through anti-corruption educational programmes,” he said.

Mustafar said he wanted immigration personnel to partake in the agency’s mindset transformation programme so as to reject corruption or think that “corruption is a big no-no”.

“To have zero elements of corruption, we must be bold enough to say no (to corruption) from our heart right to our words,” he said.
