KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman said that Malaysia is on track in achieving its development plans, more specifically the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).

In line with this, the property sector needs to stay on par as it contributes to the Malaysian and state economy, Musa stressed.

He specifically applauded the efforts made by the Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda) in boosting the state's property market.

“Shareda has played an important role in driving Sabah's property market in tandem with the government's vision for a greater private-driven intiatives, which will spur the confidence of investors.

“Sabah is experiencing a positive growth through the flow of investments, enhanced economic cooperation and improved trade relations, rise in project momentum, gradual economic diversification and greater interest by foreign investors,” Musa added.

Commenting more on the country's economic transformation agenda, Musa contended that the state's property sector, including its network in developing human resources and the related supply chain, was an effective catalyst in achieving that agenda.

He further emphasized that although the security issue in Sabah was expected to remain as a concern, it was not expected to cast a shadow on the state's property industry.

As proven in the past, negative events had not impacted Sabah significantly, including sectors such as tourism and property, Musa asserted.

Expanding more on Shareda's contributions to the state, Musa expressed his gratitude towards the association for its cooperation with the government in various levels such as developing infrastructure and supply chains, providing leadership, building community services and sponsorships, joint efforts in seminars and many more.

Musa disclosed that in early June, Shareda had brought some pertinent issues to his attention and that the latter had put forth several requests for the State Government's consideration.

“I appreciate the challenges the industry is facing and I assure you that the State Government will look into your proposals objectively to help ease the roadblocks for sustained growth.

“Furthermore, Shareda's president is now a co-chairman of the Focus Group Dealing with Constructions Permits (DCP) to promote a ‘One State One DCP Champion' in collaboration with State and Federal authorities to attract foreign investors to Sabah.

“This represents a multi-authority collaboration to dive into current rules that have posed a hindrance,” Musa said in his speech which was read by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Noor at Shareda's CEO Roundtable Conference, which was held at Sutera Harbour Resort yesterday.

The event also witnessed the presentation of the Shareda Top CEO Award 2017 to Quek Siew Hau.
