Fun activities at 27th anniversary celebration of Centre Point Sabah on Aug 12

KOTA KINABALU: Centre Point Sabah (CPS) will kick off its month-long celebration for its 27th anniversary and the Malaysian Independence Day on August 12.

CPS general manager Chang Tsai Chun said the company had spent over RM100,000 to prepare several exciting programs and create a dream-like wonderland for its loyal customers of all ages and walks of life in Sabah.

He added that this was true to its belief that CPS would remain an approachable avenue that everybody, especially the locals, would want to come and visit.

Each event is inspired by different characters from the classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland book by author Lewis Carroll.

The decoration at CPS will reflect the storyline of Alice; different areas of the shopping mall have been decorated in vibrant colours to capture shoppers’ attention.

Wonderland-themed 3D decorations have also been displayed from the information counter to the ground floor event hall, whilst the Palm Square Stage is decorated with eight feet tall hand-carved mushrooms, and the fourth floor is filled with majestically hanging colourful lanterns and umbrellas.

Many fun activities, competitions and spectacular performances will be held on each of the “Wonderland in Centre Point Sabah” week at the Palm Square level.

CPS Sabah marketing head Megan Liu said the mall would hold programs for the first time throughout the celebration that would end on September 15,

“We have never done cosplay at CPS. We had beauty but never had make-up competitions, so we really are trying hard to connect with youngsters. Before, they would come to us but now we are actually doing events for them,” she said.

“Our Facebook is actually a very strong social platform for our mall. We have almost 60,000 followers and they would constantly interact with us.

“They would rate us, they would FB message us and we will always know how many percentage, what age, where they live, what race, from our Facebook. So using our database, we organize events to serve our shoppers who are loyal to us,” added Liu.

The celebration will begin with the Mad Hatter Tea Party inspired opening ceremony, on August 12 at 2pm.

This will be followed by Cosmaniac Cosplay Showdown on August 20, which is inspired by the book’s main character, Alice.

A Baby Fair, Spelling Bee Competition and Baby Crawling Competition will fill the three-day long Tweedledee and Tweedledum Baby Fiesta, August 25 to 27, with the support from Parents Avenue.

The Blushing Alice Beauty Fair, supported by Beauty Wonderland, will be held on September 8 to 10. This fair is inspired by the card soldiers painting roses at the Queen’s garden in the book and includes a make-up competition.

Performances by Wonderland dancers and the Golden Afternoon live string orchestra at Palm Square have been lined up for August 13 to 19.

To bring back wonderful memories for the past 27 years at Centre Point Sabah, shoppers are welcome to bring photos from 10 years ago to the information counter at the ground floor in exchange for a small gift. These photos will be displayed at Palm Square on the “Into the Rabbit Hole” board, to create a nostalgic throwback.

On Saturdays and Sundays, visitors will have a chance to get free candies if they bump into the Alice character at the shopping mall during the celebration period.

CPS will also celebrate the Merdeka Day with the Workout Wonder program on August 31. From Merdeka Day till September 10, shoppers accumulating RM50 in a single receipt at CPS Sabah will also be able to redeem a game at one of its three carnival booths.
