KK police ready for Malaysia Day celebration
KOTA KINABALU: The city police contingent (IPD KK) will be ready for the upcoming National Day and Malaysia Day celebration in the state capital.
City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the IPD KK contingent had already made preparations and were looking forward to the event.
“The police have been tasked to maintain peace during the special event, especially in terms of public safety and smooth traffic flow.
“Actually, all divisions have started their tasks earlier to ensure everything goes smoothly during the celebrations,” he said at the police monthly gathering at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.
At the event, IPD KK contingent also received five bicycles from City Hall deputy director general Bahari Hassan.
Meanwhile, Chandra said the police managed to reduce the crime index in the state capital from 17 per cent in May this year to only three per cent as of yesterday.
“This shows a drop of 14 per cent of crime cases in the last three months due to IPD KK’s aggressive action in combating crimes around the state capital,” he said.
Chandra added that in the first seven months of this year, police crippled 18 gang members and solved 429 cases.
“Among the organized crimes that were reduced were vehicle thefts with the arrest of 17 people from five criminal groups, street crimes and robberies with the arrest of 14 suspects from five groups, and 32 suspects from eight groups involved in house-breaking,” said Chandra.
