KOTA KINABALU: Police are still investigating the motive for the assault on an editor at a petrol station in Luyang here last Saturday.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said police were investigating it from all angles to determine what transpired prior to the attack of the victim.

“We have seen the CCTV footage of the incident and from our observation it looks like the suspect had stopped at the petrol station to fill up his vehicle.

“Several seconds later, the victim was seen approaching the suspect and believed to have provoked the latter.

“Police therefore urged the suspect, a local Chinese man, to come forward to the police station to assist in this investigation,” he said yesterday.

Chandra also confirmed that the victim was beaten until he passed out before he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II in an ambulance for treatment.

“We are still looking into this case from all angles and if there was any sign of provocation, we will investigate the case from a different angle,” he said, adding that the case was currently investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons.

On August 6, 65-year-old CC Pung sustained facial injuries after his assailant attacked him at a gas station in Luyang around 2.45am.

It was said that Pung was heading home after drinking with some friends in Lido, when a motorcycle allegedly followed him from behind.

Unsatisfied, the victim then stopped at the gas station and confronted the suspect before the latter hit him with the crash helmet and fled the scene.
