KOTA KINABALU: Tai Ket Hau has been elected as the new Putatan District Basketball Association (PuBA) president.

The change in leadership marked a new era for the four-year old association where young but experienced office bearers were picked for the 2017-2018 term.

Former vice president Tai, 35, succeeded Wong June Kit who did not seek re-election and the former will have a committee with majority of them in their 30s to work with.

The deputy president is Allen Chung Shoo Khen, 35, while the vice president is Wong Vai Haum, 36.

Chin Kim Nyen, 35, will be the secretary, Tan Kim Hui, 40, (honorary secretary) and the committee members are Chai Vun Ket, 35, Simon Wong Chu Tsen, 35, and Siow Kwong Loon, 35.

Tai in his address pledged his best to promote basketball locally and at national level.

“PuBA plans to start right from the grassroots level, to create young talent pools of around 12 to 13 years of age for a start.

“The committee also hopes that through the sport, it will encourage youngsters to be involved in healthy activities and, in this case, basketball.

“Apart from that, I want to promote basketball as a game that can be played by all thus promoting unity among the multiracial community,” he said.

For the record, Tai is no stranger to the local basketball scene as he is instrumental in the rise of local team Undergod while at the same time managing the highly successful Kota Kinabalu InterChurch Undergod Basketball Tournament.
