32 teams to compete in SEDCO Golf Challenge

-

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 32 teams from all over Sabah will be taking part in the SEDCO Golf Challenge at the Dalit Bay Golf and Country Club in Tuaran on August 19.

SEDCO Group Sports and Social Club president Mordiana Abdullah said there were many more teams that wanted to join but were turned away due to full entries.

“On behalf of the organiser I would like to apologise to those unable to join. This is a record entry for the second consecutive year for this tournament,” she said when met in the state capital yesterday.

“This is Sabah Economic Development Corporation’s 15th annual tournament and it is being held in conjunction with SEDCO’s 45th anniversary this year.

“And this year’s challenge is a bit special because it will be held concurrently with the another tournament which will involve 13 state economic development corporations (PKEN) from all over Malaysia,” Mordiana said.

Those taking part in the PKEN tournament will be from Selangor, Kedah, UDA Holdings, Melaka, JCORP, Sarawak, Pahang and of course Sabah.

The objective of the tournament is to raise funds for activities and programmes organised by the Club which are mainly community oriented.

“This is also a chance to build interaction and rapport among members of the SEDCO Group as well as other participants like government departments and agencies as well as sports associations in and around Kota Kinabalu,” Mordiana said.

The tournament which will be played using a System 36 Stableford format is scheduled to start at 7.30am.

It features open and closed categories for team and individual events and will have attractive hole-in-one prizes as well as winners’ prizes up for grabs.

There are also novelty prizes to be won. For the record, SEDCO and Team Bluechamber were the winners at last year’s tournaments.
