BEIJING: Fans are in jubilant mood after actor Andy Lau showed up for the premiere of his latest movie The Adventurers.

Director Stephen Fung also showed up, as did cast members Jean Reno, Yo Yang, Sha Yi and actresses Shu Qi and Zhang Jingchu.

“I’m very good now, and sorry to have caused you to worry about me,” Lau said after trotting onto the stage. “Now, I’m back to what I was half a year ago. I can freely talk and laugh; I can bounce and jump.”

Lau was injured after falling off a horse while filming a commercial in Thailand in January.

He had to miss the promotion of the movie Shock Wave in April.

The Adventurers is a treasure

For the project, Andy also served as an executive producer.

Fung disclosed that Andy’s role was intended for actor Feng Shaofeng. But Feng was injured and unable to shoot the film. Fung said he was so anxious back then that his hair “went white” because it was almost unprecedented for a switch in the leading role one month before the filming.

But then Andy came in. Peace returned.

During the premiere, Andy wisecracked that due to director Fung’s romantic vision, he looked “even more handsome” in this film.

Actor Yo Yang jokingly remembered that, originally, he was supposed to kiss Shu Qi at the end of the film. However, just before the scene was going to be shot, he was notified the kiss had been changed to a “slap on his face.”

“And Miss Shu slapped me so hard, the cameraman was shocked, and even people in the whole building heard the sound,” Yang grumbled.

This week, The Adventurers is pitted against Wu Jing’s current blockbuster Wolf Warriors 2, which has just set a new box office record.

For the US market, Well Go USA has debuted an official tailor-made trailer.

In this slick, high-stakes action-adventure, the world’s top thieves – the infamous and charismatic Cheung (Andy), his former partner in crime, Xiao (Yo Yang), and beautiful chameleon Ye (Shu Qi) – join forces to pull off the heist of a lifetime.

They are then pursued across Europe by a legendary sleuth (Jean Reno).

The Adventurers is to begin screening across China today.
