SANDAKAN: The Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings of Umno need to be more organised in countering the opposition's claims and disparaging of the ruling party and its leaders through the social media.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the opposition's freewheeling slandering of the party and Barisan Nasional (BN) should not be allowed to go on unabated.
“We need to be more proactive and organised in this cyber war, especially against slander, as it could influence many among the young generation.
“We should also equip ourselves with facts and always be aware of current issues. Don't just keep quiet and be unconcerned as though nothing is happening,” he said when simultaneously opening the Libaran Umno division Wanita, Youth and Puteri delegates' conference, here, yesterday.
Also present were Musa's wife, Datin Seri Hajah Faridah Haji Tussin, Libaran Umno vice head, Datuk Zakaria Edris, Wanita head Datuk Armani Haji Mahiruddin, Youth chief Rizan Aziz, Puteri chief Karmi Arifin and some 1,500 delegates.
Musa, who is also Sabah Chief Minister and state Umno liaison chief, said on the positive side, the social media could be used beneficially to get close to and win over the young people and new voters.
“Convince them that Umno is the party proven capable of looking after the lot of the people, including the younger generation,” he said.
Besides through the social media, Musa also wants the three Umno wings to always go to the ground to meet the people and explain issues raised by the opposition parties to confuse the public.
“This is important to prevent people from falling for the opposition parties' instigation,” he added.
Musa said as leaders and members of Umno, they must dare to defend the party and BN as it had a good record in championing the people' needs and in administering the country, including in Sabah.
He said this was because Umno and BN leaders were always aware that when entrusted with responsibilities by the people, these should be executed as best as possible as they did not want to disappoint the people.
