Support for Esscom’s request for helicopters to enhance Sabah security

- By Christy Chok

TAWAU: The security in the east coast of Sabah waters will be further enhanced under the authoritative leadership of the new commander of Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), Datuk Hazani Ghazali.

Former media practitioner Koh Kian Liang said Hazani and his team were always alert and working hard to keep the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) safe from intruders, cross-border criminals and smugglers.

“As a former media practitioner serving in Zamboanga before, I fully support the request for helicopters for Esscom to carry out more effective patrol in Esszone and to eradicate crossborder crimes, smuggling and fish bombing activities,” he said after officiating the the fund-raising joggerthon of SM Holy Trinity Tawau which was also held in conjunction with the National Day celebration yesterday.

Koh, who is a former student of SM Holy Trinity Tawau, believed the use of helicopters would give tourists and local people greater confidence on the security in the east coast.

Hazani recently said in Lahad Datu that helicopters are highly needed in the Esszone to conduct patrols and intercept crossborder crimes as criminals would turn back when they see the ‘show of force’.

Koh also urged all levels of society to immediately report any security threat to the authorities.

In this Merdeka month, he said all Malaysians should unite and love the country and appreciate what the leaders have and had done for the country. Parents should also educate their children on the importance and meaning of patriotism for the sake of country’s harmony.

Koh disagreed with the notion that the Chinese community are lacking the patriotism spirit. He believes that community love their country from the bottom of their heart but without showing it.

“They are aware of it but maybe they are not likely to come forward to show it out due to the lack of communication. However, the Chinese community are still supporting Malaysia in term of economy,” he said.

SM Holy Trinity Tawau’s excellent headmistress, Chow Yuet Lee, disclosed that the school is building a pathway and is proposing to construct a threestorey building.
