Nurture savings culture among children call

KOTA KINABALU: Other government agencies have been encouraged to emulate the initiative of Bank Rakyat in promoting and cultivatin­g a lovesaving attitude among children.

Kota Kinabalu District Education officer, Umin Sadi, said in his speech during the closing ceremony of Bank Rakyat’s “Pecah Tabung” and colouring contest 2017 at Sekolah Menengah Lok Yuk Likas Hall here yesterday.

Umin said that children should be nurtured with saving attitude from school until they further their studies in higher learning institutio­ns.

“The habit of saving money should have started from home and the practice should continue from childhood until they reach adulthood,” he said.

He also said that early savings from a young age would prepare the ground for the children to have a better future.

In line with the country’s aim of becoming a developed nation by 2020, Umin highlighte­d that the quality of education was an important factor.

He added that human capital quality was an important asset in ensuring and achieving the developed nation status.

The event which was organized by Bank Rakyat for the third consecutiv­e year which was held simultaneo­usly at 17 locations all over the country, including Sabah and Labuan.

In the “Pecah Tabung” program, students brought along their coin boxes to be opened and their savings were counted by Bank Rakyat personnel on the spot.

Five students with the highest amount of savings in the coin boxes were rewarded with Nuri Savings-i Account vouchers worth RM1,000, RM500, RM400, RM300, and RM200, respective­ly.

In the colouring contest, there were two categories one each for students between seven until nine years old and between 10 and 12 years old.

Ten best contestant­s from each category were selected and brought back with them Nuri Savings-i Account voucher worth RM100.

Meanwhile, Sekolah Kebangsaan Inanam II was rewarded with RM1,000 voucher for the highest number of participat­ions. Over 10 schools participat­ed in the event.

In addition, Bank Rakyat recently introduced “Kempen Emas 1 Kilo” (1 Kilo of Gold Campaign) which started since August 1 until July 31, 2018 and offered a lot of attractive prizes worth almost RM500,000.

Also present were Bank Rakyat managers for Kota Kinabalu and Likas branch, Aris Abdul Kadir and Shamsul Ilyas, respective­ly.
