Rape suspects remanded for seven days

KUCHING: Four individual­s including a 57-year-old grandfathe­r, were ordered to be remanded for seven days for allegedly raping their own relative, a 19-year-old girl, by Samarahan Magistrate’s Court, yesterday.

They, including the girl’s father, 42, and two of her uncles, aged 26 and 28, are being remanded by court registrar Dayang Roseline Awang Mahdini to facilitate police investigat­ions.

All four were arrested at their house at Kampung Daha in Serian Division at 3.30pm last Friday.

The police took an house to trace the suspects following a police report received that the suspects had allegedly raped the victim for six years. A medical check at Seriasn Hospital on the same day found out that the girl was 25 weeks’ pregnant. The victim said she had sex with the four suspects at their house during the period.

The girl also revealed that her 14-year-old sister was also sexually assaulted by the four suspects since she was nine.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 376B of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 30 years and whipping upon conviction.

In a separate case, a Kuching magistrate’s court extended for two days an order to remand six police personnel, aged between 25 and 53, who are allegedly involved in money extortion.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion.
