RTM Sabah launches mobile app for listeners

-

KOTA KINBALU: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sabah launched its own mobile application (mobile app) yesterday with the specific aim to cater to RTM fans in the state.

RTM Sabah IT unit coordinator, Silas Lin Wunfu, said, the application was the brainchild of RTM Sabah and the practical students from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

“This is actually the first project that these practical students were assigned to when doing their practical work where they were required to design their very own mobile application.

“The purpose of the app is to make all the RTM radio stations in Sabah easily accessible,” Silas said.

He further explained that the app will also enable radio listeners to interact with their favourite radio DJs, as the app will allow users easy access to RTM Sabah’s website and Facebook page.

Astonishingly, it only took the team a matter of three weeks to create the application.

“We started from scratch and designed the entire app ourselves,” Silas disclosed.

He stressed that the biggest challenge for his team was to compile all the radio stations together and link it to RTM’s Facebook and website.

“There was no one we could ask help from. We had to rely on the Internet for reference and guidance,” Silas said, when met at the launching ceremony of the app yesterday.

Also present were RTM Sabah broadcasting director, Haji Ali Ngasio, and his deputy, Malinaziah Datu Mohd Julaspi.

Malinaziah highlighted that the app will also be useful for Muslim users seeking to know the exact time for prayers, since they can easily access the radio through the app.

The app is currently only available for Android devices. However, it is expected to be available for Apple iOS devices as well, once the process has been completed.
