Emulate Sutera Harbour’s patriotic spirit — Musa

-

KOTA KINABALU: Organizations, especially those involved in the tourism and hospitality industry, have an important role to play in preserving the country’s good image besides promoting it to the world.

As a representative of the host, an organization should show true citizenship characteristics through good manners and exemplary culture to promote the country’s good name and at the same time increase tourism revenue and generate the country’s economy, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said.

“On behalf of the state government, I applaud and praise Sutera Harbour’s continuous commitment to increase the spirit of patriotism through its annual National Day celebration. I believe Sutera Harbour’s initiative is the best example for other organizations, especially those in the hotels and tourism industry, in the context of celebrating the country’s independence,” he said.

“I, therefore, urge all hotels and organizations in Sabah to participate in the ‘Kibarkan Jalur Gemilang’ or Fly the National Flag campaign that was launched recently,” he said when officiating at Sutera Harbour’s National Day celebration here yesterday.

Musa’s speech was delivered by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, who is also chairman of the state-level National Day celebration organising committee.

According to Musa, the state government welcomes programs that promote the spirit of patriotism because it is a platform to show appreciation and gratitude to the country which has provided many opportunities for the people to enjoy the true meaning of independence.

“Even though in Sabah we are multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural, we have proven that we are capable of uniting, understanding and giving mutual respect. This is what spurs the agenda to strengthen national integration among Malaysians,” he said.

Musa added that he is confident that Malaysia will be able to go far if positive initiatives that can instill values of tolerance, understanding as well as the spirit of helping each other in all the people continue to be practised.

This spirit, he stressed, must be planted and nurtured so that a generation that is stable and able to maintain the spirit of unity will continue to drive the economy, political and social development in the country.
