Sand castle competitio­n to celebrate National Day

TAWAU: In celebratio­n of Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day, the Tawau Hokkien Associatio­n Youth and the Tawau Municipal Council will jointly organize the 19th Sand Castle competitio­n at Batu Payung Beach, Tinagat Road on September 16.

Organizing chairman Jack Hiew said the competitio­n will start at 9am and will be divided into open, associatio­n and youth categories with each team having not more than eight members.

Jack said the duration of the competitio­n is 90 minutes and the area of artwork should not be more than eight feet by eight feet.

“The design of the artwork is flexible but the use of color on the artwork is not allowed. Ninety percent of the artwork should be built/made of sand material. The organizers reserve the right to withdraw any participan­ts if they are found going against the regulation­s,” he explained.

According to him, marks will be given based on artistic content (25 percent); degree of skill (25 percent); design (25 percent); and team cooperatio­n (25 percent).

The champion will win a trophy and cash prize of RM300, the first runner-up will take home a cash prize of RM200 and a trophy and the second-runner-up will be given a cash prize of RM100 and a trophy. The fourth prize winner will only get a trophy.

Jack said the registrati­on fee for each participat­ing team is RM50 and the closing date for registrati­on is August 31.
