Four errant motorists get hefty fines

KOTA KINABALU: Four men were each fined RM1,500, in default, two weeks in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for violating their motor vehicle licences.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie imposed the fines on Ag Asmawie Pg Ayub, 39, Ronny Andrew, 33, Jasmani Yusuf, 54, and Hairolddy Dauhin, 25, after they pleaded guilty to their respective charges under Section 23 (2) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The indictment carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to two years, or both, upon conviction.

They were caught using their motor vehicle licence for other purposes at a car park in Masjid Bandaraya, Likas here between 11.18am and 11.23am on March 31.

In a separate case, the same court fined another two men for driving their vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

Carmelon Jerome Julius Ampong, 30, and Ernest Georgennye, 24, pleaded guilty before the magistrate to their charge under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transpprt Act 1987.

The indictment carries a maximum fine of RM6,000 or a jail term of up to 12 months, upon conviction.

Carmelon was fined RM2,500, in default, two weeks in jail while Ernest was fined RM3,000, in default, a month’s jail.

They were caught during separate operations at Jalan Penampang Bypass and Jalan Bundusan, Penampang at 1.43 am and 1.30am on February 25 and July 27, respective­ly.
