SMK St James to hold Semesja Run on Sunday

-

KOTA KINABALU: SMK St James Tenghilan is organising a running event dubbed the Semesja Run, which is happening this Sunday (August 20).

The run, which is named after the school itself (Sekolah Menengah St James) is aimed at raising funds for their Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

It also aims to encourage a healthy lifestyle while promoting the sport of running to students and the communities nearby.

“We also promote unity among parents and teachers as well as public awareness so that one day the Semesja Run can become a yearly event.

“Maybe it can be a run that is not just for students and teachers of the school but open to outsiders so that anyone can come join and see what Tenghilan has to offer,” a spokesperson said.

The PTA said the event could become a platform to work closely with government and private sector agencies, the tourism sector and community leaders.

“It is always wonderful to gather funds from activities like this, but most importantly, the PTA can contribute in promoting the district’s name and offer a venue for future running events here,” it said.

Meanwhile, event coordinator Casero Events is happy to be able to assist, by way of their young and experienced individuals, to promote and coordinate the event.

Its managing director, Steve Johnny Mositun, said those taking part in the run can collect their race packs at the school on Friday (2pm to 5pm) and Saturday (11am to 6pm).

Meanwhile, the organiser is advising road users to be alert at the one-kilometre stretch on Sunday morning, where the run is scheduled to start at 6.30am.
