Kembara Merdeka Negaraku 2017 convoy arrives at Wangsa Maju
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kembara Merdeka Negaraku 2017 convoy arrived at the 39th location in Wangsa Maju here yesterday after touring most of Peninsular Malaysia since August 13.
The arrival of the convoy was met by Dewan Negara deputy president Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Abd Samad, who expressed his appreciation at the willingness of the youth, especially in participating in the convoy to instill a love for the country.
“The convoy participants have shown enthusiasm, compassion and appreciation of the sacrifices made by the soldiers to achieve the country's independence from the foreign colonisers.
“Imagine what will happen to use if there were no national warriors during the colonial era, so we should appreciate their services and sacrifices besides maintaining the peace enjoyed in the country,” he said during the arrival of the Kembara Merdeka Negaraku 2017 convoy at the Wangsa Walk shopping centre here yesterday.
Meanwhile the head of the Kembara Merdeka Negaraku 2017 convoy, Mohd Roffee Mohamad said the convoy received a lively and warm reception at every location that they toured.
“We can see the spirit of the people at every place we visited with some of them greeting us with drums and kompang.
“The convoy also runs smoothly as it is accompanied by the police to ensure every participant reaches their destination safely as well as the cooperation received from the locals,” he said.
The 107-member convoy on 30 high powered motorcycles and 18 four-wheel drive vehicles started from Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan and will end its tour today with the location at Taman Maluri, Kuala Lumpur.
The convoy, held in conjunction with the National Day celebration and organised by the Information Department, also carried out various programmes, including distributing leaflets on the rukun negara appreciation campaign and community based activities like gotong-royong, painting of mosques and schools.
The convoy participants also held exhibitions at certain locations in conjunction with the National Month campaign and to distribute Jalur Gemilang in homes, vehicles, government and private buildings. -
