Two men detained for criminal intimidation

-

KENINGAU: Two men were arrested by the police here for alleged criminal intimidation in two separate cases in Nabawan and Keningau district.

Keningau police chief DSP Ahmad Jawila said a 56-yearold man lodged police report on August 3 alleging that he had received a death threat from his 25-year-old nephew at his village home in Nabawan district.

“Around 2pm on that day the man and his wife had gone to their rubber farm in the village. As they were planting rubber trees, the suspect shouted threatening words at them. Fearing for their safety, the man and his wife returned home. At around 5m, the suspect approached them with a machete and allegedly intimidated and threatened them with death,” Ahmad said, adding that the man, fearing he would be harmed, kept silent while his wife took the machete from the suspect.

According to Ahmad, the suspect later took the machete and left it behind the man's car and left the place. Ahmad said the man and his wife were not injured and the motive apparently stemmed from a disagreement over land inheritance.

On August 22, police arrested the suspect for further investigation.

In the Keningau case, a 40year-old man had lodged a police report on August 21 alleging that he was threatened by his younger brother with a machete at his house in a village.

Ahmad said the incident which took place at the home of the man's mother, arose when the man asked the suspect, who was on the first floor with two friends, to come down as he suspected they were taking syabu.

“The suspect became angry and started quarreling. Then he took a machete and and approached his brother menacingly while uttering threatening words,” he said.

When a family member called the police, the suspect escaped. He was arrested at his home by a police team.

Both suspects are now remanded and will be investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code which upon conviction, can be sent to jail for two years or fined, or both.
