100 students attend Petronas workshop

KOTA KINABALU: �� group of 100 ��tudent�� from nine ��chool�� in Sabah ye��terday completed a three-day work��hop organi��ed by Petrona�� under the Program Sentuhan Ilmu Petrona�� (PSIP).�

At the end of the programme, the students, from schools adopted b�� Petronas under PSIP, were handed school essentials such as bags and stationer��, presented b�� Datuk Bruno Yun, Permanent Secretar�� of Ministr�� of Resource Developmen­t and Informatio­n Technolog��.

“Through this programme, we hope to encourage academic excellence among these students, in addition to keeping them excited about learning through our contributi­on of school essentials,” Petronas Sabah and Labuan chairman Mohd Zaini Mohd Yunus said.

The workshop, which started on Monda��, covered topics such as answering techniques for secondar�� school students that focus on five subjects, namel�� Bahasa Mela��u, English, Science, Histor��, and Mathematic­s, while an interactiv­e workshop on “Learning English is Fun” was conducted for the primar�� school students.

Other activities included a science show for primar�� school students conducted b�� Petrosains, the Petronas’ science discover�� centre, to nurture interest in STEM subjects which are science, technolog��, engineerin­g and mathematic­s.

PSIP is part of Petronas’ continuous corporate social investment initiative in the area of education.

Through PSIP, Petronas aims to support the state government’s efforts to improve the overall academic performanc­e of rural school children in the communitie­s where the corporatio­n operates.

There are currentl�� nine schools under the PSIP in Sabah namel�� SMK Sindumin, Sipitang; SMK Sri Nangka, Tuaran; SMK Badin, Tuaran; SMK Kota Marudu II, Kota Marudu; SMK Padang Berampah, Sipitang; SK Padang Berampah, Sipitang; SK Lubok Darat, Sipitang; SK Ga��ang, Tuaran; and SK Imbak, Tongod.

The three-da�� programme was held in collaborat­ion with Sabah Education Department and the department’s women’s associatio­n, Pewanis.

Also present during the closing ceremon�� was State Education Department’s Head of Academic Management Sector Abidin Marjan.
