Strong Woman Challenge attracts outside challengers
PENAMPANG: The Sabah Strong Woman Challenge which is happening at the Donggongon Night Market next weekend continues to receive interest including from outside the state.
The event, which is happening on September 23 and 24, is making waves among women from within and outside Sabah.
Aside from others who have confirmed their entries, two more women from Labuan have signed up for the competition. They are Flavia Mannie Luntak, 38, and Norlisa Rusly, 34.
Two others have also confirmed their entries and they are Selly Laminggu, 40, and Meliana Jelis, 35, from Bingkor, Keningau.
Selly and Meliana trained under Affandy Matthius, who had competed in the Sabah Strongest Man Challenge in the past. They train with him at Kelab Gym Bingkor and they are ready to give their best effort to win the competition.
With these four new entries, there are now 12 participants, including from Johor and Brunei.
“There is still more than one week before the competition and we are confident we will have 18 participants, which is our target for this tournament. Some have already contacted us and said they want to join, so we are expecting to receive their entries later this week and next week.
“We would like to encourage more locals to join this inaugural competition for women because they will have a natural advantage over those who are from outside Sabah,” said tournament coordinator Roger Frederick when met here yesterday.
The Sabah Strong Woman Challenge is jointly organised by the Penampang Tourism Action Council (PTAC) and AtukoiFM with the cooperation of the Penampang Municipal Council.
Participants will compete in six classic strongman challenges, namely Atlas Stone, Tyre Flip, Car Deadlift, Yoke Walk, Truck Pull and Farmer’s Walk.
Attractive cash prizes will be up for grabs including RM1,500 for the champion, RM1,000 for the runner-up, RM700 for third place and RM500 for fourth place.
There are also prizes of RM400, RM300, RM200 and RM100 for the fifth to eighth place winners, respectively.
