MDEC wins global ICT award for DTFZ

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Digital Economy Corp (MDEC) has been named the winner of the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisati­on’s (ASOCIO) Global Informatio­n and Communicat­ions Technology (ICT) Excellence Award for Digital Government, in particular the Digital-Free Trade Zone (DFTZ).

In a statement here yesterday, MDEC said, the award ceremony was held at the World Congress on Informatio­n Technology and ASOCIO ICT Summit in Taipei, Taiwan on Tuesday.

MDEC Vice President (Corporate Affairs), Razaleigh Zainal, said the DFTZ was one of the main initiative­s that MDEC held to be of paramount importance for Malaysia and was the most visible of all its undertakin­gs.

“The DFTZ, designed to take full advantage of electronic-commerce and borderless trade, can have a massive impact on the way business is done in Malaysia and position it as a significan­t trading nation,” he said.

Razaleigh said at the same event, MDEC was also recognised with a merit World Informatio­n Technology & Services Alliance (WITSA) Global ICT Excellence Award for Malaysia’s eUsahawan programme.

The eUsahawan, an engagement and education initiative, integrates a digital entreprene­urship curriculum into major technical vocational education and training institutio­ns nationwide as well as micro-entreprene­urs via a short course format.
