Civil servants reminded to steer clear of corruption

-

KOTA KINABALU: Civil servants are reminded to abstain and to reject any forms of bribery, corruption and abuse of power, but continue to provide the best services to the rakyat in a transparent and high integrity manner, said Public Services Department Sabah (JPAN) director Datuk Haji Nordin Siman.

Speaking at the free corruption pledge at the Public Services Department Sabah office in Likas yesterday, Nordin said the Corruption Free Pledge must be adhered to and adopted by all civil servants regardless of rank.

“Integrity is very closely related to corruption. If there is no integrity among us, we will abuse our power which will then lead to corruption.

“But if we have integrity in ourselves and our work, then we will refrain from involvement in unethical activities such as corruption and abuse of our power,” he said at the event yesterday.

The Corruption Free Pledge event saw 140 Public Services Department Sabah officers and personnel take the oath in front of Malaysia AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) deputy director of operation Hasbillah Mohamad Salleh.

Nordin also supported MACC's effort in establishing a corruption-free environment in the workplace and ensuring all officers and personnel continue to stay away from any corruption practice.

The Public Services Department Sabah, said Nordin, had drafted the Public Service Intrigroup Plan since 2014 as an initiative to strengthen and prevent corruption from occurring among civil servants.
