14 teams to battle it out in Sabah Futsal League

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah FA Futsal Committee is organising a Sabah Futsal League at the Yayasan Sabah Futsal Arena here on November 11 and 12, this year.

Eight teams are in the fray for the Men’s Division 1, while six are in the Women’s Division 1. They are all the top teams from last year’s league.

The Men’s and Women’s Division 2 are open to all clubs and teams in Sabah. Entry fee for division 2 is RM100 per team.

According to Sabah FA futsal committee chairman Yamani Hafez Musa, there are a few minor changes to the rules and regulations of this year’s competition.

“This time there is no limit where player registration is concerned. Teams can have as many state players or ex-state players, there is no maximum number now. Teams can also register players from outside Sabah, meaning that registration is open.

“And this time the format will be Preliminary Rounds and Grand Final. The top six teams from the men’s division 1 and the two finalists from division 2 will qualify for the grand final.

“In the women’s category it will be the top four from division 1 joined by the two finalists from division 2, into the grand final.

“The Grand Final will be held on December 2 and 3, this year,” Hafez said in a statement here yesterday.

He said the Sabah Futsal League will be used as a platform to identify the best players to represent Sabah at the National League.

According to Hafez, Sabah will be playing in the qualifying rounds in December. If all goes well, they will feature in the 2018 National League.

Close to RM20,000 in cash prizes are up for grabs in the Sabah Futsal League this year. For registration and more information contact secretariat Syazana Jamil (0143507170) or tournament secretary Azman Soaibah (0168207479), who is also secretary of the Sabah Futsal Committee.

Closing date for entries is November 7.
