20 govt depts, agencies to take corruption-free pledge

-

KOTA KINABALU: Some 20 government departments and agencies are expected to take the corruption-free pledge before the program ends in November.

Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy director Zulkefle Abd Hamid said among the government agencies or departments are Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and SAFODA.

“Both City Hall and SAFODA are expected to take the corruptionfree pledge by this week and we believe more government agencies and departments will follow suit subsequently. We expect all government agencies and departments to take their pledge before the program ends by November 15,” he said.

Zulkefle said this after witnessing the Resource Development and Information Technology Ministry staff taking the corruption-free pledge yesterday.

The pledge was led by the ministry's deputy secretary, Ahmad Suhaimi Yacob, and witnessed by Resource Development and Information Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat and permanent secretary Bruno Vun.

Zulkefle said since the program was implemented in February this year, more then 50 government agencies and departments in Sabah had taken the pledge to avoid and to prevent corrupt practice or abuse of power.

Meanwhile, Bruno reminded all staff of the importance in upholding the pledge, to have integrity and not to abuse one's power.

“We must always uphold our integrity and refrain from getting involved in any corrupt practices and abuse of power,” he said.
