Hyenie, Kona are winners in Keningau Fun Run

KENINGAU: Hyenie Koslin and Kona Liau emerged as champions in the open and veteran categories respective­ly of the five-kilometer Fun Run, held in conjunctio­n with the Keningau Puspanita Carnival at the municipal field here on Sunday.

The second and third places in the open category were won by Mrs Mailin and Dr Madeline Lee Chee respective­ly.

Taking the second and third places in the veteran category were Chong Vun Lung and Laidah Sakim respective­ly.

The carnival organizing committee chairperso­n, Aininah Alfian Koroh, said participat­ion by women in the fun run in both categories was very encouragin­g.

She said 280 women participat­ed in the first carnival fun run this year and hoped that such programs would continue next year.

Meanwhile, District Officer Haji Yusop Haji Osman who is also adviser to Puspanita, in his speech at the opening of the fun run, offered congratula­tions on the success of the carnival and run.

He hoped that such program, which was organised for the first time this year, will become an annual event in efforts to enhance the interest of women in the district on sports.

“On behalf of government department­s and agencies here, we (express) support for programs that will benefit women, especially sports and the practise of a healthy life,” he said.

Yusop, together with Keningau Umno Youth chief Nik Nazri Nik Zawawi, then flagged off the participan­ts who started and finished at the municipal field.

Prizes were presented to the winners by Nik Nazri who represente­d Assistant Agricultur­e and Food Industry MinisterDa­tuk Haji Sairin Karno.
