More police patrols in flood-hit areas

-

KOTA KINABALU: There are no reports of criminal activities in flood-hit districts, Sabah Commissioner of Police Datuk Ramli Din said.

But as preventive measures, the police will increase patrolling in these areas to ensure that there are no incidents of housebreaking, he said.

Ramli assured house owners who had to be evacuated because of flooding that the police would do their best to prevent criminal activities in their respective areas.

Police, he said, were worried that house break-ins would result in the house owners incurring more losses.

“We will be working with other government agencies to assist flood victims,” said Ramli, adding that more than 2,000 people in two districts had been affected by flood since October 16 and had to be relocated to temporary shelters to wait for the water to subside.

He told reporters this before going to Kota Belud to deliver 300 boxes of food to the flood victims still taking refuge in temporary shelters in the district.

Ramli also thanked MameeDouble Decker Distribution (M) Sdn Bhd for donating instant noodles for the flood victims.

Mamee-Double Decker Distribution (M) Sdn Bhd sales manager for Sabah, Chung Tze Yang, said the donation was worth about RM12,000.

“This is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to help the flood victims,” Chung said.
