Refresher course for Sabah boxing officials

-

KOTA KINABALU: The quality of judging and assurance that qualified referees strictly comply with the International Boxing Association’s (Aiba) rules and regulations during every boxing match in Sabah are expected to be fine-tuned thanks to Boxing Malaysia and Referee and Judges Malaysia.

Both boxing bodies from the national level conducted a refresher boxing course at the Likas Sports Complex ISN Conference Room here during the weekend.

According to Sabah Boxing Association (Saba) president Datuk Orlando Harumal, the two-day course was participated by five local qualified boxing referees and 20 boxing judges.

He said the participants were reminded and educated on updates to Aiba’s rules and regulations alongside other matters, particularly in executing professional judging during every tournament.

“I am very thankful to the organiser of the refresher course, especially our guest speakers, vice-president cum chairman of Referee/Judge Malaysia Major Wan Mahmood and Boxing Malaysia secretarygeneral Samsul Haji Deran,” Harumal said.

With the conclusion of the much needed course on Sunday, Harumal said the public can now expect a higher quality of performance from Sabah referees and judges for boxing tournaments in the future.

He also urged local boxers to prepare themselves properly prior to every tournament to avoid disqualifications and defeats, stressing that the boxing officials will be strict when executing their responsibilities during matches.

Also in attendance at the course were Saba vicepresident Fabian Tony Peter, Saba secretary Darsham Singh, tournament chairman John Andriano and other officials.
