Surrender ‘bakakuk’ to police — CP
KOTA KINABALU: State Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din has advised farmers in possession of homemade gun or ‘bakakuk’ to surrender the weapon to the police.
“Possession of the firearm is against the law,” he said, adding that the police were taking the matter seriously as the number of cases involving ‘bakakuk’ recorded in the state had increased to 63 between January and September this year as compared to only 15 cases of the same period of last year.
“Tawau recorded the highest number of people in possession of this illegal weapon followed by Keningau, Kunak and Kinabatangan.
“So I would like to remind again those who own this illegal firearm to immediately hand it over to the police as it is an offence and action can be taken under Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960,” he said during the state police monthly gathering at the State police headquarters in Kepayan yesterday.
Also present were State Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Razarudin Husain and State CID chief SAC Salehhudin Abdul Rahman.
Earlier in his speech, Ramli reminded all police officers and personnel to maintain their integrity, commitment and always ready to face any challenges, especially in the coming 14th General Election.
Ramli also handed certificates of appreciation to 20 police officers and personnel for their outstanding performance for the month of October.
